Day 1: Flight from Lusaka to Mfuwe
On arrival at Lusaka Airport, you will connect onto a domestic scheduled flight to Mfuwe Airport, where a guide will welcome and take you to Lion Camp, your home during your 3-night stay in Zambia’s game-rich South Luangwa National Park.
Day 1 – 4: Lion Camp – South Luangwa National Park
Famously known as the Pride of South Luangwa, this camp has ten rooms (7 luxury suites, and 3 deluxe suites), sleeping 20 guests and is the northern most camp on the west bank of the Luangwa accessible from the main Mfuwe area. Its position is one of its strongest assets, by the time you reach camp you have left the Mfuwe area, which at times can become quite busy, a long way behind. There are lagoons in the vicinity of camp and the rich riverine vegetation and mixed woodland has a high carrying capacity so game-viewing is usually very good.
The tents are raised on stilts overlooking an ox-bow lagoon that dries towards the end of the season, and the dambo beyond, each is connected to the central area by a wooden walkway that is several meters above ground. There main area is a large open, spacious and airy thatched area with private nooks, seating areas and a beautifully designed pool. There is a well-stocked bar, real size snooker table, coffee station, shopping area and reading corner in the main area. The openness of the lodge affords spectacular views of the plains with the constant presence of wildlife. The suites have been designed to maximize the spectacular views of the plains with plenty of wildlife passing, allowing guests the opportunity of constant viewing, from either the main lodge decks or the luxury of their own private suite deck.
Activities are either on foot or by vehicle but those that may have experienced a night drive or two in the busier, central Mfuwe area will thoroughly enjoy the after dark activities from this camp as you are not likely to see another vehicle whilst patrolling the area close to camp and the opportunity to see nocturnal animals should not be missed.
Due to its remote location, it is only open from the 21st of May through to 31st October and a minimum stay of 3 nights is recommended to get the most out of your stay at Lion Camp. The rates at Lion Camp are a little more reasonably priced than most of its high-end competitors, this fact combined with its remote location makes it, an excellent inclusion in any Zambian itinerary which includes South Luangwa.
Activities at Lion Camp:
• Day and Night Game Drives
• Walking Safaris
• Safari Sundowners
• Bush Meals
Day 4: Flight from Mfuwe to Jeki Airstrip
You will be transferred to Mfuwe Airport by your guide where you will catch a scheduled domestic flight to Jeki Airstrip in the Lower Zambezi National Park. At Jeki Airstrip, a guide will welcome and take you to the Anabezi Camp, which will be your next home as you continue on your Zambian adventure.
Day 4 – 7: Anabezi Camp – Lower Zambezi National Park
This lodge was built in 2013 on a site towards the Eastern side of the park that has had a camp on it for many years. Very large custom designed tents on raised decks, each one with a separate sitting area, inside and outside bathrooms as well as private plunge pools on the deck outside.

Modern comfort and authentic African luxury come together at Dulini Anabezi in one of Africa’s finest game viewing destinations. Renew your love affair with nature in one of the twelves tented suites, complete with either king or twin beds, overlooking the Zambezi River, Zambezi Floodplain or Kulefu Channel. Each tent features an indoor ensuite bathroom with Victorian style soaking bathtub, and an outdoor bathroom complete with outdoor shower.
All rooms are connected to the camp’s main areas by a raised wooden boardwalk and designed for maximum privacy, creating a personal haven amidst the Zambian wilderness. The family tent features two connected rooms, one king with en-suite bathroom and outdoor bathroom, and one twin room with private bathroom, both of which share the same viewing deck and plunge pool.
Operating months are April through to the middle of November; access is by air either using scheduled flights into Jeki which is about 1.5 hours’ drive from camp or by charter into Kulefu Strip which is just 10 minutes away. Activities as with all Lower Zambezi camps are varied walks and drives tend to be very productive in this area of the park and are complimented by canoe trips, boat cruises and fishing excursions.

Activities at Anabezi Camp:
• Day and Night Game Drives
• Walking Safaris
• Special Sundowners
• Boat Safaris
• Fishing
• Canoe Safaris

Day 7: Domestic Flights Jeki Airstrip – Lusaka – Busanga Airstrip
At some stage on this day, your guide will drop you off at Jeki Airstrip where you will catch a scheduled domestic flight to Lusaka. On arrival at Lusaka Airport, you will connect onto a shared charter flight to Busanga Plains.
At Busanga Airstrip, a guide will welcome you and take you to Shumba Camp, your home during the 3-night stay in this game-rich part of the vast Kafue National Park.
Day 7-10: Shumba Camp – Kafue National Park
One of the Wilderness Premier Camps, it accommodates 12 guests in as much luxury as you are going to find in the Kafue. It is set in the central part of the Busanga Plains in the north of the park. Shumba opens for just five months each year, making this seasonal camp one of the most exclusive safari destinations in Africa. Expect front-row seats to dramatic and thrilling wildlife encounters.
Remote and exclusive, Shumba occupies its own little island in the midst of the Busanga Plains, overlooking miles of floodplains threaded with channels. There are just six luxury suites here, built on raised wooden platforms to observe the wilderness from every angle. Marvel at the Plains’ lion dynamics, relax in your spacious tented suite and later, dine sumptuously under the stars. The rooms are joined to each-other and the central area by raised wooden walk-ways so you quite literally don’t touch the ground when you are in and around camp. The rooms are very spacious with showers both inside and out, they have well designed sitting areas in front of each room which are also raised off the ground giving a good perspective of the plains surrounding camp.
The camp is set on one of the islands that pops up from the plains and is covered with fig trees, there are a couple of very impressive specimens here that add shade to the whole affair. Right from Shumba’s contemporary deck you’re immersed in its exceptional diversity of wildlife. The area boasts more antelope species than anywhere else in Africa, taking dramatic flight as predators approach. Busanga Plains is known for its predators - leopard, hyena, cheetah, and the star attraction, the 'flying lions’ - often seen leaping over the drying channels.
Activities are restricted mostly to driving safaris as the area, essentially one very large open plain, is not exactly ideal for walking. Wilderness Safaris also operate a boat on a relatively small hippo pool not far from camp, this adds an interesting alternative perspective.
Activities at Shumba Camp:
• Day and Night Game Drives
• Boat Safaris
• Birding
• Stargazing
Day 10: Domestic Flights: Busanga - Lusaka - Livingstone
You will be transferred back to Busanga Airstrip to catch a shared charter flight to Lusaka, where you will connect onto a scheduled flight to Livingstone.
At Livingstone Airport, a guide will welcome and take you to Toka Leya Camp.
Day 10-13: Toka Leya Camp – Livingstone
Toka Leya offers front row seats to a daily wilderness spectacle on the banks of the Zambezi River. Elegant Toka Leya Camp, on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, is the ideal luxury base from which to enjoy Mosi-oa-Tunya's thrilling wildlife and adrenaline activities. Just a short drive from one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World - the majestic Victoria Falls - this sublime camp is a beacon of conservation tourism in Zambia.
Toka Leya has a featherlight footprint on the environment. The airy and luxurious lounge, dining area, bar and pool deck, and 12 generous tented suites, are raised on wooden decks so as not to disturb the parade of wildlife. All offer wondrous views over the Zambezi River and the local hippos, crocs and elephants coming to drink. Three of the suites are family units with an extra bedroom.
The lodge has its own boats for river cruises and game-viewing vehicles for game-drives although the game in this National Park is only a side attraction for most guests who go elsewhere for the animals and come to Livingstone for the Falls and for the numerous activities available in the area.
As with all Wilderness Safari properties in Zambia it is hard to fault the professionalism of the operation, there is a spa on site and the company’s attempts to operate with a low carbon footprint are impressive, all the water is heated by solar, there is very well managed tree planting scheme in place and guests are offered an inspection of the waste water treatment plant and worm farm should they be interested.
