About the Course

Day 1: Flight from Lusaka to Jeki Airstrip

On arrival at Lusaka Airport, you will connect onto a domestic scheduled flight to Jeki Airstrip, where a guide will welcome and take you to Chula Island Camp. Chula will be your home during your 4-night stay in Zambia’s Lower Zambezi National Park.

Day 1-5: Chula Island Camp – Lower Zambezi National Park

Chula Island Camp is a beautiful tented camp that combines understated luxury with the charm and spirit of a true seasonal bush camp. With only six guest tents and a maximum of twelve guests, Chula offers an intimate and exclusive escape in the heart of the Zambezi wilderness.

Each tent is carefully positioned to make the most of the island’s setting, with sweeping views across the Zambezi River. The tents are bespoke and exceptionally comfortable, featuring high-quality linen, plush mattresses, flushing toilets, running water, and traditional bucket showers. At the heart of camp, a stretch-canvas main area rests beneath the cool shade of Natal Mahogany trees — a perfect spot for relaxed meals, quiet reading, or simply taking in the sights and sounds of the wild.

Simply put, the Lower Zambezi has some of the finest big game wildlife viewing in Africa. This, coupled with the variety of safari activities on offer and the aesthetics of this park, make for a truly fantastic wildlife spectacle. High densities of elephant gather on the valley floor as the dry season commences, along with large herds of buffalo and impala. In attendance are all of the large predators one might expect, with lion, leopard and wild dog very well represented here. The only notable omission might be the giraffe, but a night-time safari scouting for honey badger and aardvark should help you forget about our long-necked friends.

With the broadest possible spectrum of safari activities on offer, Classic Zambia camps in the Lower Zambezi are ideal for each and every safari goer. They are specialists in walking and canoe-based safaris, with a high-caliber of qualified guides (in Zambia guides are professional, and accredited to the same standard as school teachers). They also offer game drives, both day and night, alongside boat-based safaris and even angling for those interested in trying their hand at landing the world-famous Tigerfish! Photography is a passion at Classic Zambia and their guiding team are experts in light, angles and of course wildlife behaviour and anticipation.

Day 5: Flight from Jeki Airstrip to Lufupa Airstrip

At some stage on this day, you will be transferred to Jeki Airstrip to catch a shared charter flight to Lufupa Airstrip. At Lufupa Airstrip, a guide will welcome and take you to Musekese Camp, your home for the next 3 nights of your Zambian safari.

Day 5-8: Musekese Camp – Kafue National Park

With just five guest rooms (a sixth due in 2026) and a team of highly experienced guides, life at Musekese Camp moves at your own pace and according to your interests. The rooms are spacious and thoughtfully designed, each with en-suite flushing toilets and on-demand hot and cold showers. Powered entirely by a well-configured solar system, the camp runs smoothly and sustainably — with ample energy to keep your devices charged and your drinks perfectly chilled, day and night.

What truly sets Musekese apart, however, is its setting. Before 2012, no tourist had ever set foot in this remote and wildlife-rich corner of Kafue National Park. Through years of dedication and conservation work by Phil, Ty, and their team, the area has become a thriving haven — still wonderfully exclusive and among the most unspoiled tracts of African wilderness you can find.

The wildlife viewing in and around Musekese is exceptional. Game numbers and the quality of sightings have improved year upon year thanks to increased protection and concerted habituation by Phil, Tyrone and the team. All the major predators are present, with leopard and lion very well represented. Elephant herds are always visible in the dry season months and the plains game is as numerous as it is varied from sable and hartebeest to zebra and puku (puku in their thousands!). Birding is top-class, with hundreds of species recorded in and around the Musekese area from Pel's Owl to African Finfoot!

We appreciate that our guests come with a great variety of interests and team at this camp will always ensure that the equipment they use is well-maintained equipment. From the flat-bottomed hulls of the sturdy river boats, to the option of game drive vehicles with or without the roof. For the keen photographers, they have specially adapted camera mounts to ensure complete stability for your shots. Walking safaris are tailored to suit, from exploratory adventures to shorter leg-stretch jaunts. Overall, the fact that you are more likely to see more lions than tourists, makes for one of the finest and truest wilderness locations on the continent.

Activities at Musekese Camp:

•               Day and Night Game Drives

•               Walking Safaris

•               Boat Safaris

•               Boat Lunch

•               Photographic Hide

•               Conservation Visit

Day 8: Game Drive Transfer from Musekese Camp to Ntemwa-Busanga Camp

After breakfast this morning, you will do a game drive transfer which will take you to Ntemwa-Busanga Camp in the Busanga Plains of Kafue National Park. This game drive transfer promises you exciting scenery and wildlife sightings along the way.

Ntemwa-Busanga Camp will be your home during the last 3 nights of your Zambian safari.

Day 8-11: Ntemwa-Busanga Camp – Busanga Plains of Kafue National Park

This intimate camp features just five thatched chalets, each with an open-air en-suite bathroom at the rear, complete with a flushing toilet, plumbed sink, and a warm bucket shower. The raised main deck overlooks the vast and wildlife-rich Busanga Plains, offering the perfect place to take in the view. There’s also a shaded bird hide and sitting area – doubling as our small WiFi room – ideal for relaxing during the heat of the day.

Ntemwa-Busanga has evolved organically over the years, with each season bringing thoughtful improvements. Today, we’re incredibly proud of the latest incarnation of the camp – a truly special place in one of Zambia’s most remarkable wilderness areas.

The wildlife of the Busanga Plains is as varied as it is abundant. Regional specials such as roan and sable antelope are regular sightings, while thousands of red lechwe dot the plains. The southern plains are home to wildebeest, zebra, the diminutive oribi and the ever-watchful reedbuck.

Predators thrive here too. The Ntemwa Pride calls the area around camp home, while several other lion prides roam the northern sections of the plains — together forming one of the highest densities in Zambia. Leopard sightings are particularly rewarding, frequently encountered both along the treeline and out on the open plains. Cheetah have become a real highlight — with nine different individuals recorded from camp during the 2025 season. Wild dogs also move through the area — elusive as ever, but always an exciting possibility.

Set in the heart of the vast and wildlife-rich Busanga Plains, Ntemwa-Busanga Camp offers front-row access to one of Zambia’s most unique and sought-after safari destinations. This seasonal floodplain teems with predators, antelope, and birdlife, and has become a favourite among wildlife photographers for its dramatic light and open landscapes. Activities here are predominantly vehicle-based, making it ideal for exploring the plains efficiently and comfortably. Combined with Musekese Camp, where walking and boating options are available, guests can enjoy a superb “best of Kafue” itinerary that showcases the full diversity of the park. The guiding team, among the most experienced in the region, has worked with professional photographers and film crews from around the world, ensuring every drive is both rewarding and expertly led.
