Day 1: Charter flight from Lusaka to Chunga Airstrip
On arrival at Lusaka Airport, you will catch a domestic charter flight to Chunga Airstrip. This flight offers stunning aerial views of Zambia’s diverse landscapes.
At Chunga Airstrip, a guide will welcome and take you to Ila Safari Lodge, where you will spend the first 3 nights of your Zambian safari.
Day 1-4: Ila Safari Lodge – Kafue Central
Ila Safari Lodge was completed and opened its doors in July 2016. It is on the east bank of the Kafue River and so, outside of the park on privately owned property; it is close to the Hook Bridge which lies on the road running due west out of Lusaka and gives access to the central part of the Kafue National Park.
Whilst the Kafue would not necessarily compare favorably against the South Luangwa or Lower Zambezi in terms of the quantity of animals one sees on an average drive, it is well renowned for the diversity of species that can be found and it is fast becoming an ‘essential place' for any properly seasoned visitor to Zambia.
The camp itself will accommodate a maximum of 24 people in large, luxurious and well fitted-out tents on raised decks over-looking the river. The rooms could be compared to the newer safari tents at its neighboring camp Mukambi, a few kilometers downstream but the fact that this is newly constructed gives it a slight edge which is reflected in the price being charged.
Game-drives and walks in the park are offered, as well as cruises on the river. Access to the Park will usually be gained across the river as vehicles are kept Park-side for game-drives although the proximity of the camp to the Hook Bridge means that sometimes that route will be chosen.
We would usually recommend combining some time in the central area of the park with a few days on the Busanga Plains in the north, where Green Safaris operate Chisa Busanga Camp.
Activities at Ila Safari Lodge:
• Day and Night Game Drives
• Walking Safaris
• Boat Safaris
• Fishing
• Sunset/Lunch Cruise
• Bush Breakfast
• Village & School Visits
Day 4: Game Drive Transfer to Busanga Plains
You will be transferred from Ila Safari Lodge to Chisa Busanga Camp by game drive, with lots of game and scenery to see along the way.
Chisa Busanga will be your home for 3 nights as you explore the game-rich Busanga Plains of the vast Kafue National Park.
Day 4-7: Chisa Busanga Camp – Busanga Plains of Kafue National Park
Green Safaris built Chisa Busanga Camp to mimic its surrounds through beautiful architecture and environmentally conscious design.
Chisa is the Nyanja word for ‘bird’s nest’, and the rooms were inspired by the weaver bird nests that decorate the trees here. Sitting on a small tree-lined island, the camp uses only solar power as do the game drive vehicles used to explore the watery dambos beyond.
Chisa Busanga Camp celebrates the natural and cultural heritage of the Busanga Plains, a place that will leave an indelible imprint on your mind, as it has on ours.

The four Nests blend seamlessly into the wild outdoors, while paying attention to the creature comforts needed inside for a luxurious nesting and sleeping experience. The four Nests are built four metres off the ground and shaded by terminalia trees. You are treated to expansive views from your luxurious beds, private outdoor deck and indoor/outdoor shower. Wooden steps lead you to your haven in the trees, which is lined in canvas tenting and fitted with a modern en-suite bathroom and king size bed covered in soft linens.
Activities at Chisa Busanga Camp:
• Day and Night Game Drives
• Walking Safaris
• E-Biking
• Bird Watching
• Bush Meals
Day 7: Flights Busanga Airstrip – Lusaka – Mfuwe Airport
At some stage, you will be transferred to Busanga Airstrip to catch a shared charter flight to Lusaka where you will connect onto a scheduled flight to Mfuwe Airport.
At Mfuwe Airport, a guide will welcome you and transfer you to Shawa Camp where you will spend the last 3 nights of your trip as you explore the game-rich South Luangwa National Park.
Day 7-10: Shawa Camp – South Luangwa
Shawa Luangwa Camp is a small, eco-friendly bush camp overlooking the Luangwa River in the Nsefu Sector. This is one of the park’s most untouched areas where excellent year-round game viewing and astonishing habitat diversity make it ideal for safaris by foot and vehicle.
Shawa Luangwa is as much about its people as the wilderness surrounding it. The camp was named after a legendary Zambian safari guide, Jacob Shawa, who is the head guide and has been such an inspiration for the team and the Luangwa community.
Each of the 5 Safari Suites is individually styled for a modern under canvas experience on the banks of the Luangwa River.
Keeping with the Green Safaris philosophy, the camp is 100% sustainable and run completely off-grid. They offer 'Silent Safaris', which are championed through green technology like electric boats, bikes and game drive vehicles.

• Day and Night Game Drives
